The Municipality plans to enhance the entrance to Plovdiv from Tsarigradsko Shosse and simultaneously revitalize the Botanical Garden.
Plovdiv Mayor Ivan Totev shared the plans today, according to a reporter from Plovdiv24.bg. The garden, covering over 150 decares, is 100% state-owned and managed by the Agricultural University, which means the Municipality does not have the authority to make decisions about it.
“However, on the initiative of Trakia district Mayor Kostadin Dimitrov, a meeting with the rector of the Agricultural University is forthcoming to explore how we can assist,” Totev explained.
One of the immediate actions will be to secure the property with a fence to ensure safety, cleanliness, and order. Funding for this will be included in next year’s city budget. “With the fence, we want to prevent situations where anyone could enter and cut down trees, such as those we brought from Tanzania,” Totev described a hypothetical scenario.
The Municipality also insists that the Agricultural University remove an unsightly construction store located within the university’s managed area.
The ultimate goal is to make the entire area welcoming. “Currently, we have a pathway, but there is a construction store with 3-4 carts parked in front of it. It’s not acceptable for this entrance to Plovdiv to look like this. We will make efforts to improve it and also support the Botanical Garden, which is currently there, but hardly noticeable,” Totev added.
