In Plovdiv, a new phase has begun for the revival of the Botanical Garden, which is planned to become part of the city’s green system and an educational center. The initiative is supported by the regional governor, Prof. Hristina Yancheva, and the deputy mayor, Vladimir Temelkov, who are aiming for the garden’s modernization. Vladimir Temelkov discussed the need for a legal framework to secure funding from the state or European funds. Funds have been allocated in the municipality’s budget this year to start the planning process.
Assoc. Prof. Boryana Ivanova, rector of the Agricultural University, emphasized that the university continues to seek support for the garden despite previous failures. Support has also been pledged by the Center for Plant System Biology and Biotechnology, with the goal of securing funds for the construction and operation of the garden.
Natalia Elis, the leader of the community center “Compass” and an active volunteer in the garden, shared the efforts of volunteers in cleaning and improving the terrain. Prof. Yancheva and Deputy Mayor Temelkov are planning a meeting with the Minister of Education to discuss financing and the initiation of the conceptual project.
